Character analysis
Deepika Padukone stars as the beautiful and intelligent Queen Padmavati, who wins the love of Maharawal Ratan Singh. Although she is very beautiful, Padmavati is not known for her looks; His intelligence and courage are also commendable. His decision to hire Jauhar instead of being kidnapped by an enemy shows how independent and self-respecting he is.
Shahid Kapoor’s character Maharawal Ratan Singh is the brave and ruler of Chittorgarh who is totally devoted to his queen Padmavati. He is described as a just and good ruler, ready to give his life to protect his kingdom and subjects.
The film’s antagonist is Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), a no-nonsense ruler who is obsessed with Padmavati’s beauty. Khilji is described as a ruthless and intelligent leader who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. With his mesmerizing performance, Ranveer Singh captures the charm and intensity of Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari portrays Mehrunisa, Khilji’s wife, as sympathetic in the heat of her husband’s cruel ambitions. Mehrunisa is portrayed as a respectable and intelligent woman, dissatisfied with her husband’s behavior but unable to change it.
Movie Description
Based on the Sufi poem of the same name written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540, Sanjay Leela Bhansali added his own twist and interpretation to ‘Padmaavat’, giving it a fairy-tale feel. This makes any conflict seem insignificant, and pales in comparison to the unfolding show. Bhansali teamed up with two of his favorite leads of late – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, but he added Shahid Kapoor to complete the trio’s praiseworthy performances.
Shahid is steadfast and unflappable as Maharawal Ratan Singh – the ruler of Mewar, a proud Rajput. He brings a royal aura and character that inspires the trust and loyalty of the Kingdom of Mewar and more importantly the heart of Rani Padmavati. Deepika shines as a Rajput queen whose beauty, intelligence and courage keep the plot moving along as Alauddin Khilji desperately wants her.
Padmavati’s appeal is more significant after the hiatus, when her character comes to life and she can show her acting level. Ranveer as Alauddin Khilji is seen as a cruel and ruthless ruler, who is consumed by his lust for power and flesh. She oozes wild magnetism with a bejeweled face, kohl-rimmed eyes and an oiled brow. The scenes between her and Shahid are some of the most captivating, with both of them flexing their muscles in different parts of different roles.
Apart from them, Aditi Rao Hydari holds her own as the naive Mehrunissa who suddenly wakes up when she discovers the true nature of her husband Alauddin. Jim Sarbh is flawed as the Sultan’s general servant, unable to pose enough of a threat to overshadow his master’s. Nevertheless, the set is successful in keeping with Bhansali’s take on this larger-than-life story.
The director’s expertise in adding opulence and grandeur is well-known, and even more evident in 3D. Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee compliments it by bringing out a beautiful aesthetic. However, the effects in the movie/war don’t meet the expectations of the movie being raised. Also, the songs don’t do much to advance the story beyond providing eye candy. Of course, it could have done with a tight storyline and a short timeline, but “Padmaavat” is a thrilling experience on a big canvas, brought to life by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s visual genius.

Padmaavat music is composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and background score is by Sanchit Balhara. This song was written by A. M. Turaz et Swaroop Khan. So far, two songs from the film have been officially released.
Budget
Padmaavat was made on a huge budget of around Rs. 180-190 Crores. After analysis, this movie has a total running time of 193 minutes.

Alauddin Khilji attacked and captured Chittor Fort in 1306. Sultan of Delhi died in 1316. Padmavat was written by Jayasi in 1540. Alauddin Khilji and Jayasi’s Padmavat are separated by 224 years and more than 650 km.
